Villanova University has announced that the Cabrini University campus in Radnor will be renamed Villanova University Cabrini Campus and will close for two years so renovations can take place, writes Susan Snyder for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Villanova officially took ownership of Cabrini on Friday. Most of the campus is closed to the public starting Monday, July 1, except for the Upper Gulph entrance and the athletic facilities used by local campus and for other activities.
The 112-acre campus purchased by Villanova will reopen in fall 2026 at the earliest, according to a message from the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, president of Villanova.
The renovation work will make the campus “feel like a natural extension of Villanova,” he wrote, with the goal of making “enhancements to the property to renew its use as an idyllic university campus.”
Villanova has stated it will “maintain the current usage and functionality of the Cabrini campus buildings.”
After Cabrini was hit with financial trouble and a lagging enrollment it reached an agreement with Villanova to purchase the campus.
Villanova is paying $45 million to retire Cabrini’s debt and another $25 million for campus improvements.
