Philadelphia Airport in the Sites of Turkish Airlines as a Destination
Turkish Airlines has 14 destinations in the United States after it added a direct route to Demark, but future stops for the airline will like include Philadelphia, writes Cam Bonelli and Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.
Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat told Travel Weekly that PHL is on its wish list to be part of 20 U.S. destinations.
Charlotte, Minneapolis and Orlando would also be on their list.
PHL Chief Commercial Officer Kate Sullivan said Philadelphia Airport is always looking for opportunities to grow its international air service. It regularly meets with global carriers, including Turkish Airlines.
The airline began flights to the U.S. with New York traveling via Brussels in 1988. Six years later it offered direct flights to New York
The 90-year-old company flies to 120 countries from Istanbul Airport with a fleet of 457 aircraft.
PHL has 24 passenger airlines operating. Its largest is American Airlines, which serviced more than17.3 million passengers at PHL in 2023.
Out of PHL, there are 31 international nonstop destinations for travelers.
For winter 2024, American will start nonstop service from PHL to Bridgetown, Barbados and Liberia, Costa Rica.
