NYT: Willistown Township’s Shyamalan Family Work on Scary Movies Together
Willistown Township director M. Night Shyamalan is collaborating with his daughters, Saleka and Ishana Night Shyamalan, on the thrillers The Watchers and Trap, writes Esther Zuckerman for The New York Times.
The Watchers is Ishana’s feature directing debut and her father is one of the producers. The movie was released on June 7.
Meanwhile, Seleka, who is a musician, plays a pop star in Night’s latest movie, Trap. She also wrote original songs for the movie, which is coming on Aug. 9.
Having similar release dates is a coincidence, however the family is happy to share in the celebration.
“I feel like in some ways we’ve always done that, since we were growing up, experience things together,” said Saleka. “So it feels right even though it was unplanned.”
With the talk about nepotism in Hollywood running hot, the sisters acknowledge the advantages of their last name, however, both have worked hard to achieve their goals through discipline.
“It’s really about meeting that privilege and honoring that with as hard a work ethic as we can, by being as kind people as we can and holding ourselves to the highest standard possible,” said Ishana.
