These State Routes Are the Deadliest to Drive in Pennsylvania
Two of Pennsylvania’s deadliest routes are Route 611 with 13 average fatalities a year, and Route 309, which has 7.6 per fatlities year, writes Evan Jones for The Morning Call.
That’s according to a study by the Dallas-based The Barber Law Firm.
The study looked at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ‘s Fatality Analysis Reporting System data from 2018 to 2022.
“The data shows that in all states, certain routes must be approached with more caution than others,” said Kris Barber, founder of The Barber Law Firm.
Most of the fatalities on Rt. 611 were in Philadelphia and suburban areas in Montgomery and Bucks counties.
There were 65 deaths recorded from 61 fatal crashes on Rt. 611, which runs from Philadelphia to Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County. The worst year for fatalities was 2022, with 20 deaths reported.
On Rt. 309, at least a dozen fatal crashes occurred in Bucks and Montgomery counties between 2018 and 2022.
In total, there were 33 fatal crashes on Rt. 309, resulting in 38 deaths. The route runs between Philadelphia and Monroe Township, Wyoming County. The worst year was 2022, with nine crashes resulting in 11 deaths.
