PennDOT should be fixing this jutting median problem on West Chester Pike this week.

Drivers say a new median along West Chester Pike in Newtown Square is downright scary, writes Dawn Timmerney for Fox 29 News.

PennDOT built the median and now is looking for a fix after receiving several complaints from drivers using the route.

Apparently, part of the newly-installed media on eastbound West Chester Pike near the CVS in Newtown Square juts out into the left lane.

“It is sticking out a lot, yeah. If it’s a big car, you’re in big trouble. If you can’t judge it right, you’re going to get into an accident,” said Beth DeVito.

Liz Besvinick, of Edgemont drives that route each morning and said it’s unnerving because there’s nowhere else to go, except into the right lane, where there might be a car.

PennDOT said it is aware of the problem and plans to reconstruct the pointed portion three feet back from where it is now. That should give more space for drivers.

A contractor was expected to be on site Wednesday to correct the situation, with work wrapped up by the end of the week.
