Radnor Life Science Product Firm Avantor Narrowly Misses Fortune 500
The Radnor life science product company Avantor, which appeared last year among the Fortune 500, narrowly missed the list this year, dropping down from 485 in 2023 to No. 506 this year, writes Ryan Sharrow for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Fortune 500 list, released each year, ranks publicly-traded companies by annual revenue.
Avantor provides products and services to the life sciences industry. It posted revenue of $6.97 billion in 2023, down 7 percent from the prior year.
There are 11 Philadelphia-area companies that did make the Fortune 500 list in 2024. Of those, only Lincoln Financial, with its Radnor headquarters, is based in Delaware County.
Lincoln Financial showed up at No. 354 but dropped 132 spots from 2023 as it dealt with a revenue loss of 37.9 percent to $11.6 billion.
Conshohocken-based Cencora, previously AmerisourceBergen, ranked the highest among the 11 regional companies. It climbed to the No. 10 Fortune 500 slot after showing up at No. 11 last year. The pharmaceutical wholesaler had revenue of $262.2 billion in 2023, up 9.9 percent from the previous year.
Crown Holdings, previously headquartered in Philadelphia and Yardley, made the Fortune 500 this year at No. 344 but the metal food can manufacturer has relocated its corporate headquarters to Tampa, Florida.
