Laboratory product and services provider Avantor, located in Radnor, has started a global “responsible supplier’ program to help reduce the environmental impact and accelerate sustainable practices along the supply chain, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Avantor piloted the program with a small group of supplier partners in 2022. It expanded the program more broadly last week.

The program focuses on six priorities: climate change, deforestation, human rights, responsible packaging, waste, and water.

Avantor’s program works along three pillars:

Performance.  It measures a supplier’s sustainability performance, collecting data and assessing progress on priorities.

It encourages collaboration by having supplies partner with other suppliers to find and develop solutions for current and future sustainability challenges.

It rewards suppliers for exceptional sustainability performance and collaboration.

The criteria for recognition will be worked out and rewards will be started following performance data collection.

Avantor is a Fortune 500 company and a leading global provider of products and services to customers in the biopharma, healthcare, education and government, and advanced technologies and applies materials industries.

The company aligns its strategies with five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and it is a member of the UN Global Compact initiative.
