A Morton outdoor roller skating rink is opening in June as a companion to the existing Hangout Snack Bar on Morton Avenue, writes Jesse Bunch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 40-foot rink will run Fridays to Sundays June through September. It will be located across the street from The Hangout Snack Bar, a creation of Ridley entrepreneur Latisha Gray and her husband, Alonzo.

The Snack Bar features retro-boardwalk-inspired food, like Philly water ice, fresh-baked Philly pretzels, homemade ice cream, funnel cake, even acai bowls and smoothies.  The hope is the Snack Bar and the rink will be a winning combination..

The rink is modeled after one run annually at Dilworth Plaza in Philadelphia.

Guests can rent skates on site. Rink-side tables let guests hopefully enjoy snacks from The Hangout and certain days will also feature food from nearby restaurants and food trucks.

Gray, a Philadelphia event planner, and Alonzo opened the Hangout Snack Bar last July.

She hopes the rink will provide family-oriented, outdoor entertainment in Morton.

“We are always getting ideas from our customers,” Gray said. “They’re like, ‘There’s nothing in our area!’”
