Johnny O’s Speakeasy recently opened its doors in a former historic bank in West Chester, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
The members’ only cocktail lounge is perfect for those seeking a place to enjoy a good meal, have a drink, and “relive” Prohibition.
The establishment is in the basement at 9 Prime, at the First National Bank building.
Patrons can see the sparkling doors leading to vaults and safety deposit boxes all around the space. There is also a lot of texture on the wallpaper, with comfy velvet and leather seating enhancing the atmosphere.
The walls and ceilings are adorned with symbols of money and bank décor, while the lighting is low.
Members can use a special key fob entrance in the rear and membership is limited to 150 members for now. It costs $2,500 per year and members get a 10 percent discount on 9 Prime food upstairs.
“We are never jam-packed with people,” said Chris Jones, assistant general manager of the speakeasy. “We want a most intimate experience for our members. We want everyone to feel that this is as much theirs as ours.”
The establishment offers “small bites” along with high-end spirits and cocktails.
