Greg McNaee of Springfield Copes With Life While Waiting for a Kidney
Gregory McNanee of Springfield is waiting for a kidney donation and while he waits he faces stress, anxiety and sickness, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.
McNanee, 26, has been on a four-year wait for a kidney.
He’s a 2016 graduate of Springfield High School, had been sick for six years when he was diagnosed in 2020 with end-stage renal failure membranous hephropathy.
He knew there was something wrong because he was anemic, with no energy, sleeping most of the time.
He’s been forced to go on daily home dialysis, from 7:30 PM until 4 AM.
McNanee had been working in a restaurant while waiting for a kidney but got sick before Valentine’s Day 2023 when an infection hit his stomach lining.
He’s also needed 10 surgeries after a catheter for his dialysis became infected. He’s still sick and unable to work.
McNanee said he feels like he’s been robbed of his 20s.
“I feel lost,” he said. “I don’t want to do this anymore. I just want to go back to normal.”
McNamee is registered with transplant lists at Penn, Temple and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
