Cochranville Goat Rental Services Comes to the Rescue in Delco
Delaware County’s Morton Borough has hired Cochranville-based goat rental service Amazing Grazing to help clear out invasive vines, bushes, and shrubs at two of its wooded lots, writes Frank Kummer for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The borough decided to go with a more natural – and much cuter – option instead of herbicides. The Amazing Grazing goats have a healthy appetite and are always up for a snack.
Some residents decided to come out and greet the goats on their arrival, including Allen and Melissa Lindenmuth and their two-year-old daughter Addison.
“Our daughter is a big animal girl,” said Allen. “So when she heard the word goats, there was no way we weren’t coming tonight.”
The 19 goats will dine on the flora of the 4.9-acre Jacob’s Park and 1.6-acre Sycamore Woods over three weeks. They will help the borough get rid of English and poison ivies, poison oak and sumac, and Japanese knotweed, among other invasive plants.
“We wanted to make sure that not only are we preserving our green space but to make sure we’re enhancing it, as well,” said William Stewart, borough manager.
The 2,800-resident borough hired Amazing Grazing for $12,000.
