West Chester University Names Jasmine H. Buxton as Vice President for Student Affairs
Following a national search and effective Jul. 1, Jasmine H. Buxton, Ed.D., has been named Vice President for Student Affairs at West Chester University (WCU). West Chester University President-Elect Laurie Bernotsky announced the appointment on Apr. 16.
Buxton, who will report directly to the president and serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet, comes to West Chester University with an impressive background in student affairs and nearly 20 years of progressive senior leadership experience in the field of higher education.
In her role at West Chester University, Buxton will serve as the Chief Student Affairs Officer and will provide strategic leadership for co-curricular learning and the overall student experience. She will also ensure coordination across the University community in support of student health and wellness, safety, and student engagement beyond the classroom.
Buxton brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in areas that greatly impact students and their college experiences. In her current role as associate vice chancellor, she oversees nine departments within the division: Student Care and Conduct; Accessibility Center and Project Success; Health and Counseling Center; Center for Student Success and Belonging; Residence Life; Dining; Reeve Student Union; Recreation and Wellness; and Student Leadership and Involvement.
Before her role as associate vice chancellor, Buxton served as Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Delaware State University; she assumed the position of Senior Associate Vice President after being promoted from Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.
Before joining Delaware State University, Buxton was Assistant Dean of Students at Bowling Green State University. Prior to her work at Bowling Green State University, she worked at Alabama A&M University where she assumed the dual role of Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development, as well as Director of New Student Orientation.
Her leadership expertise quickly became apparent to the Alabama A&M administration as she was asked to step in and take on the position of Interim Associate Vice President of Student Affairs. She successfully completed the short-term assignment and returned to her role as Director. Her extensive career also includes leadership roles at The University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, Indiana State University, and Central State University.
Buxton earned a doctorate of Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama, and a master’s degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Indiana State University. She graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in Black World Studies with a concentration in African American Literature and History.
