Delaware County extras play members of the congregation during a critical church scene in Delco: The Movie.

Local extras sat in the pews Tuesday during a critical scene for Delco: The Movie at Springfield Presbyterian Church.

Director Chris Pierdomenico asked them not to applaud so he could record the dialogue.

They applauded anyway. A very Delco thing to do, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

A crowdfunding campaign put the extras in the pews for a chance to be in a scene with the film’s three biggest stars; Brian O’Halloran, from the Clerks franchise; Brian Anthony Wilson, who played Det. Vernon Holley on The Wire; and Brian Dunkleman, who co-hosted the first season of American Idol.

Ro-Lyn Deli in Brookhaven catered with free hoagies, prompting one extra to warn out-of-town cast and crew not to call them “Subs.”

Delco musician Paul Marturano, who plays a church pianist in the film, performed an original song, “Delco Girl” on the church lawn, while extras danced in the parking lot.

“It’s great to see the community come out and help this film,” O’Halloran said. “You need to get a community to rally around something like this going on.”

The movie is set to be released later this year on Amazon Prime.
