The Philadelphia Print Shop in Wayne is a true treasure trove of history, writes Melissa Jacobs for the Main Line Tonight

It is run by David Mackey, who started collecting antique maps almost a quarter century ago. Since then, he has spent plenty of time going through other people’s garages, barns, and attics. Even more so after he acquired The Philadelphia Print Shop in 2020.

Throughout the years, he has had many amazing finds, from historical prints, views, and scenes to rare books to historic property atlases of the Main Line

“We have more than 10,000 antique works on paper that are generally over 100 years old,” said Mackey. “New customers and established collectors come to us looking for antique prints, maps, and books – and we authenticate every item we offer.”

One of the more recent finds is the map of the Battle of Brandywine he found in a dusty attic in Delaware. The map was determined to be an original engraving that dated to 1777. Mackey offered the treasure to a longstanding client who was willing to pay almost $13,000 for it.
