Comcast Spectacor has unveiled its plan to transform the South Philadelphia Sports Complex.

Comcast Spectacor is getting a new partner in its efforts to transform the South Philadelphia Sports Complex in the Philadelphia Phillies, writes Tom Dougherty for CBS News Philadelphia.

Last month, Comcast Spectacor unveiled plans to make the sports complex a “world-class, live-work-play sports and entertainment district” by upgrading Xfinity Live!, adding a mid-sized concert venue, hotel, new retail shops, and an outdoor plaza between Pattison Avenue and Wells Fargo Center.

Phillies managing partner John Middleton sees value in joining these efforts because it further highlights what makes Philadelphia so unique — the community.

“This project focuses on expanding that community and bringing in more residents, workers and visitors,” said Middleton. “With the creation of new spaces and experiences, Philadelphians and visitors will have more opportunities to celebrate the passion and pride we have for our city and our teams.”

The project will be broken into two phases, with the first phase expected to be completed in 2028.

The second phase would bring additional development, another hotel, residential units, an office space, additional restaurants, and retail shops, and green space.

“Our partnership with the Phillies will strengthen the ongoing growth and revitalization of the South Philadelphia community,” said Comcast Spectacor CEO Dan Hilferty.
