The Swarthmore College men's basketball team is one of three Delaware County teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Swarthmore, Eastern University, and Widener University, all NCAA Division III teams, will take part in the NCAA Tournament this year, writes Matt Leon for KYW Newsradio.

The teams compete in the first round on Friday.

Swarthmore College’s men’s team has made the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight season after emerging as champions of the Centennial Conference.

The Eastern University Eagles out of St. Davids won the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth for the first time in program history.

Expect some tough competition, said Eagles head coach Dan Pruessner.

“We’re that team that will stay with you, stay with you, stay with you,” he said.

At Widener University in Chester, the men’s and women’s teams are heading to the tournament.

The Widener men earned an at-large bid into the tourney. The team has been nationally ranked through much of the season.

The Widener women are the champs of the MAC Commonwealth.

“It’s been unbelievable. It was a surprise type of year and a special type of year, and it just keeps going. You know, we’ve been underdogs from the very beginning, and we loved it,” said women’s head coach Alisa Kintner.
