Is Pennsylvania ready for a Jason Kelce Day?

There’s definitely political will here in the Philadelphia region, but what’s the feeling in Pittsburgh Steelers territory?

Two state senators plan to introduce a resolution in the state Senate to make June 2, 2024, “Jason Kelce Day,” honoring his retirement from the Philadelphia Eagles

The date reflects back to Kelce’s jersey, No. 62, writes Gillian McGoldrick for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sens. Amanda Cappelletti (D., Montgomery) and Jimmy Dillon (D., Philadelphia) also want to recognize Kelce’s contributions as a role model and philanthropist for young people.

“We’re both huge Jason Kelce fans,” Cappelletti said. “He has done so much for our community here in Philadelphia and meant so much to the community here in the southeast of Pennsylvania and hopefully across Pennsylvania.”

The Senate is currently led by Republicans from Western Pennsylvania, in Steelers country.

A spokesperson for Senate Republicans could not immediately be reached for comment about the resolution.

If the resolution is passed, the two Senators plan to invite Kelce to visit the Senate in June.

Last year, the state House of Representatives recognized Taylor Swift, declaring 2023 “the Talor Swift Era in Pennsylvania.”
