Golf Genius in Wayne, which makes software for golfers and golf clubs, has acquired Shotzoom based in Phoenix.

Golf Genius, a Wayne-based golf software company backed by pro golfer Rory McIlroy, has acquired Shotzoom as it expands into international territory, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.

With Phoenix-based Shotzoom, Golf Genius is able to grow its presence in the direct-to-consumer market.

The company makes software used by golfers to post scores and track handicaps and by clubs to manage tournaments and pro shops.

Nearly all of the Philadelphia area private clubs, including the Merion and Aronimink Golf Clubs and the Philadelphia Cricket Club, use Golf Genius.

Shotzoom owns the Golfshot and CoachNow apps.

Golfshot uses GPS to track shots and swing data and has 8 million registered users.

CoachNow is a video platform that helps 2,100 coaches in 50 sports analyze and instruct their athletes.

About 60 percent of Shotzoom’s business is outside the U.S.

The Shotzoom purchase, the ninth acquisition to date, was made by combining cash and stock, with the stock valued at $23.75 million.

Golf Genius was founded in 2009 by Mike Zisman.

“I’d like to say we’re going to do two more acquisitions this year. I think that’s a very good estimate,” Zisman said.
