Jason Kelce officially announced his retirement Monday afternoon.

Jason Kelce’s retirement decision will have to wait a few more weeks as the Philadelphia Eagles center thinks through whether he wants to retire, writes Sean Neumann for People.

“I think now we’re not far enough away from the last game” to make a decision, the 13-year NFL veteran said Monday during Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast with Shaq.”

What he needs right now is time, rest, and a chance to recoup from what he described as a long and emotional season.

Kelce didn’t talk to the media after the Jan. 15 NFL playoff game.

Both the NFL and ESPN reported Kelce had told his teammates after the game that he planned to retire.

Since then, Kelce has said many times he may not quite be ready after all, though he admits it gets harder and harder to play.

“It is exciting to think about possibilities — it is exciting to be able to lose weight, feel good, and not physically fight for my life every day,” he said. “I think it is also daunting. It is anxiety, and at the end of the day, it is the unknown.”
