As the economy continued to recover, the unemployment rate in Pennsylvania remained at a record low 3.4 percent for the third consecutive month in November.

The unemployment rate in Pennsylvania remained at a record low 3.4 percent for the third consecutive month in November, writes Jonathan D. Salant for The Morning Call.

According to preliminary numbers by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate was lower than the 4 percent rate in November 2022.

As the economy continued to recover from the pandemic-related downturn over those 12 months, the Keystone State added 125,800 jobs, increasing the total from 6.1 million to 6.2 million jobs.

The unemployment rate is currently the lowest in the state going back to 1976, and is also under the national rate of 3.7 percent.

Kirabo Jackson, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, said Pennsylvania benefited from supply chains being unsnarled and the decline in inflation.

“We had a very strong economy,” said Jackson.

According to the National Association of Manufacturers, the state recorded some of the strongest growth in manufacturing, which employed 9.5 percent of the state’s non-farm workforce and accounted for 12.7 percent of the gross state product in 2022.
