An increased climate risk has led insurance companies to drop Delaware County homeowner's policies for some households.

A Collingdale neighborhood is working to recover two weeks after a storm flooded 18 homes on Florence Avenue, helped by individuals and corporations who came forward with $4,000 in gift cards.

A coastal storm overloaded the culvert of Pusey Run, a small stream emptying into Darby Creek back in mid-December, reports Madelene Wright and Will Kenworthy for CBS News

Several flooded Collingdale renters have found their homes unlivable; utilities still shut off.

” I just had to call off today from two of my jobs,” said Darryl Howell. “Actually, I work two jobs because I’m still working on how to organize my entire family.”

Collingdale Mayor Donna Matteo-Spadea said flood victims have nothing and are destitute.

“These are people that are renting homes in the lower end of Collingdale, and they’ve lost what they didn’t even have to lose.”

The donated gift cards are for stores like Giant and Walmart.

Matteo-Spadea is grateful the community came together to help.

Howell said he’s grateful but wants more to be done to get him back into his home. He and his wife are camping out at their home with no heat or water while his 2-year-old daughter and her siblings stay with relatives.
