It Continues to Look A Lot Like Christmas at the McGrath House

Christmas decorations visit for a while at the McGrath house in Glen Mills.

For Charley McGrath, Christmas comes to his Glen Mills home weeks before Thanksgiving, with green garlands wrapped around the white columns of his two porches and wreathes above the windows.

Decorations get added from that point forward and will remain at the McGrath house until Feb. 21, the day of his son Broderick’s birthday, writes Sally A. Downey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

There’s a snowman on one porch and a velvet-suited Santa holding a teddy bear on another porch.

Inside, the living room tree has hundreds of ornaments, with a gold angel and halo.

The stockings are hung by the fireplace with care—one for Charley, one for his wife, Rayna, and one for each of his children, Declan, 15, Broderick, 11, and Scarlett, 9.

“Charley loves Christmas,” Rayna said, “If he had his way, he would start decorating when the cherry blossoms bloom.”

Charley has a master’s degree in architecture with a concentration in real estate development.

Since he and Rayna bought the home in 2014, he’s rebuilt the front porch, added a side porch, designed a new kitchen and primary bedroom and bath, installed an HVAC system, replaced the roof and windows, and refurbished shutters that were in the garage.
