Jason Kelce, Fans Emotional Over Lane Johnson’s Award Nomination
A Philadelphia Eagles player receiving a nomination for a special community award generated an emotional speech from Jason Kelce to his teammate, writes Katie Bowl for Country Living.
Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, given annually since 1970 to an NFL player who has made a significant difference in their community.
Each team nominates one of their own for the award. The nominee receives $55,000 to donate to a nonprofit of their choice. The winner, who will be announced Feb. 8, receives $250,000.
Johnson has been with the Eagles since 2013 and, in that time, has struggled with anxiety and depression. These days, he is a mental health advocate for Philadelphia youth.
“When I think of a man, I think of somebody who weathers the ups and downs in life…you’re doing better than I’ve ever seen, and it’s so ****ing awesome to see,” Kelce said.
“Love y’all,” Johnson replied.
The Lane Johnson nomination evoked emotional fan responses of their own to those who saw it on Instagram.
“Kelce pulling on my heartstrings,” one fan wrote.
“Why are my eyes sweating?” asked another.
