With the Wingmate Guest Pass, families and friends can now accompany and meet passengers at the flight gates inside the airport terminal.

The Philadelphia International Airport has joined a growing list of airports nationwide that are allowing non-ticketed into its terminals, writes Daniel Terrill for Travel Awaits

A new policy implemented on Nov. 1 at the airport allows friends and family members to escort a passenger to or from their gate using a Wingmate Guest Pass.

“We are pleased to offer this new free amenity for nonticketed guests,” said PHL Director of Marketing and Branding Megan O’Connell, adding that the program “will help loved ones spend more time with their family members before take-off or create a memorable arrival experience.”

Philadelphia International Airport is one of 12 airports nationwide that have similar programs, according to a list curated by AFAR.

It hearkens back to a time when non-travelers could meet their loved ones at the gate.

The program is free and available each day from 6 AM to 10 PM.

Patrons who want to participate in the program have to complete an online application one to seven days before their desired visit.

A status update will be issued between 15 minutes to the next day, depending on the requested date.

The program also allows people access to the airport’s food court and shops.
