Langhorne-based Philly Pretzel Factory is flocking towards a vegetarian alternative to the traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner.

For 17 years, brothers and co-owners Brian and Shaun Kean brainstormed eclectic iterations of Philly’s favorite baked delight.

Since 2006, the brothers bake soft pretzels resembling the shape of a cooked turkey every Thanksgiving season.

It can be used as a bread bowl for dips or a novel centerpiece. The Langhorne-based chain also offers an “alive” turkey pretzel, which has feathers that break off into smaller bites.

Philly Pretzel Factory has made 80 turkeys this season and are booked with orders for fifty cooked pretzel turkeys.

They can be frozen and taken out 40 minutes prior to Thanksgiving feast. They must be pre-ordered and cost $20 throughout the season.

Philly Pretzel Factory co-founder Brian Keane told The Philadelphia Inquirer about how these birds are the perfect treat for Game Day.

“People always think they have enough food, but what about appetizers, or when the football game goes on?” Brian Kean said. “In reality, pretzels become the thing people go to most.”
