Delaware County DA Jack Stollsteimer Announces Run for Attorney General
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer has thrown his hat into the ring for Pennsylvania Attorney General in 2024, writes Marc Levy for the Associated Press, as reported in WHYY.
Stollsteimer announced his run on Monday. He is the fifth Democrat to announce his candidacy for the post. He joins state Rep. Jared Solomon, former state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale, former federal prosecutor Joe Kahn, and Keir Bradford-Grey.
He was twice-elected district attorney in Delaware County.
“I am uniquely qualified because I do that work every single day in the fifth-largest county in Pennsylvania,” Stollsteimer said in an interview.
The 60-year-old has also been a federal prosecutor in Philadelphia, a top official in the state Treasury Department, a safety advocate in Philadelphia’s schools, and a senior aide to state House Democrats.
Stollsteimer is probably best known for his efforts in fighting gun violence in the city of Chester, using a partnership-based model that connects offenders with job training and school or community-building programs.
The model has resulted in a reduction in gun homicides in that city by 68 percent since 2020, with 65 percent fewer shootings.
In 2019, he became the first Democrat to hold the office of district attorney in Delaware County
