Delaware County Phillies Fan Moves on, Sets Sights on Next Year
Delaware County Phillies fan Vince Phillips has been in it for the long haul, and he understands disappointment, writes Ximena Conde and Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
There was the pitcher’s duel in the 2010 National League Championship Series between Roy Halladay and Tim Lincecum that ended with the San Francisco Giants going to the World Series.
In 2011, there was Game 5 when Ryan Howard was final at-bat and hobbled his way to first base, eventually shut down by his pain.
Then there was Tuesday as the 58-year-old and his wife and two children watched the Game 7 loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“I would like to win,” he said, a bit deflated. “I think we all want to win.”
But this Delaware County Phillies fan is working through the grief, listening to sports radio, going over items that led to the Phillies’ downfall.
Phillips has come to the conclusion that the Phillies, looking to hit the long ball, were defeated by speed and singles.
But the Phillies are not cursed, he joked, and he continues to stand by his team.
“I’m not tuning out,” he said. “I mean, I live for next year.”
