Delaware County college student Dakota Scott was rescued this weekend by her university’s armed guards from the Gaza border after Hamas attacked Israel, reports Randy Gyllenhaal for NBC 10 Philadelphia.

Scott has been studying religion and history in Israel for a semester and was near Gaza this weekend, visiting friends when the rocket attacks began.

She hid in a safe room.

“It’s been loud, and from where I was at, you could actually hear the air strike happening in Gaza, so it’s been constant like, ‘boom, boom, boom.’ “

At one point, her university sent armed guards down to rescue her and bring her back to Jerusalem.

“Military men were waiting outside the car for me. I got into a fortified vehicle, and they drove me back.”

The family she was with had a relative who was taken hostage by Hamas, Scott said.

She hopes the world is watching and understands who it was that attacked Israel.

“It was just like overnight war began, and so the death toll is rising on both sides dramatically, and I think it’s important to know that there are still lots of Israeli hostages, and that’s something that needs to be resolved.”
