Wallingford Woman Launches Teen Theater Progam in Ireland
A Wallingford woman, Pam Monaco, has taken her positive musical theater experience on the road with a “first-of-its-kind” musical theater program for Irish teens, writes Fionnuala Boyle for Irish Star.
Pam Monaco, a Temple University professor who has directed shows at the Hedgerow Theatre in Rose Valley, launched Musical Theatre Dublin in 2017 and spends her time traveling between Philadelphia and Dublin, teaching teen actors 13 to 19 about working on stage.
They learn music and voice, choreography, acting technique, and the nuts and bolts of creating a show.
She provides sessions in June, July, and August in the Beckett Theatre at Trinity College, concluding with a Broadway and London-style musical performance.
“The program I created is based on one my kids were involved with in the States, Upper Darby Summer Stage. I’m the only one doing something like this in Ireland. Everything I’ve seen, heard, and read, confirms it’s unique,” she said.
Her next step is to relocate to Dublin full-time and transition the program to year-round, with the ultimate goal of creating a professional theater company.
Pam Monaco was inspired to create the Irish theater program after she bonded with an Airbnb host in Dublin who was involved in the Irish entertainment industry.
