Bonner-Prendie Football Team Takes on UK Foes in Ireland

The Monsignor Bonner & Prendergast Catholic High School Friars Football Team is preparing to head to Ireland as it participates in the Global Ireland Football Tournament, writes Matt Bennett for Patch.

The team will take on NFL Academy from the United Kingdom at Energia Park Stadium in Dublin on Aug. 25.

“We are extremely proud of our players and what they accomplished this past year and look forward to bringing home a win from Ireland,” said John E. Cooke, Ed.D., president of Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School..

The game is part of a “Dublin Friday Lights” tripleheader,

The Friars Football Team is scheduling workouts in anticipation of the international game at the Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School’s Turf Field on Lansdowne Ave. in Drexel Hill.

The Global Ireland Football Tournament 2023 is a part of the Aer Lingus College Football Classic, which started in 2012.  Since then, 20 teams from three countries, including eight from the United States, have participated.

In 2022, the Bonner & Prendie Football Team were Philadelphia Catholic League Blue Division Champions, District 12 4A Champions, advancing to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association 4A State Quarterfinals.
