Matt Cord is replacing John DeBella in the WMGK morning show.

Glen Mills native Matt Cord will be replacing local radio legend John DeBella at WMGK-FM, writes Jeff Blumenthal for Philadelphia Business Journal.

DeBella recently retired as morning show host at the classic rock station.

Matt Cord, who is now a midday host, starts his new time slot beginning Sept. 5, joined by DeBella ‘s producer and co-host Steve Vassalotti.  The show will be called the “Matt Cord Show with Steve Vassalotti” and will air weekdays from 6 to 10 AM.

Cord took over middays at WMGK in January 2020. He has 30 years of on-air radio experience at adult contemporary station 95.7 BEN-FM and WMMR-FM. He was also the afternoon drive host at Y-100.

He began his career in 1988 at Long Island’s WBLI-FM.

Matt Cord is also well-known as the 23-season in-arena announcer for the Philadelphia 76s.

“It goes without saying John DeBella is a tough act to follow,” Cord said in a statement. “I’m excited to have Steve as my co-host as our friendship goes back to his intern days.”

DeBella decided to retire after more than four decades on the air. His last show was on June 30.
