Crozer Health Computers Up Again as Group Moves Past Ransomware Attack

Crozer Health workers, including nurses, ratified a one-year extension of their contract while the parent company of the healthcare system looks for a new buyer.

As of Friday, Crozer Health’s computers were “back up and running normal” after an Aug. 3 ransomware attack crashed the system of Crozer’s parent company, Prospect Medical Holdings out of California, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Ransomware blocks computer access until the perpetrator of the attack is paid money to release the system. 

The ransomware attack disrupted many services at Prospect ‘s 16 hospitals in four states, including in Delaware County. Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, and Springfield Hospital in Springfield.

Many primary care services were closed on Friday as security experts investigated the incident.

“Work to input paper patient records used by our caregivers while our systems were down into our electronic medical record system is ongoing,” the health system said. “We appreciate the resilience shown by our physicians and employees during this disruption, and we thank our patients for their patience and continued loyalty to our facilities.”

The Rhysida ransomware group has claimed it was responsible for the attack, according to Security Affairs.
