Four Delaware County hospitals that are part of Crozer Health were affected by a ransomware cyberattack on August 3rd against Crozer owner Prospect Medical Holdings, reports Anie McCormick and the 6abc digital staff.
Crozer Health is evaluating how the attack impacted its four hospitals—Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Springfield Hospital, and Taylor Hospital.
“We have experienced a ransomware attack that is Prospect wide. We are evaluating the situation. There has been no impact on the quality of patient care,” Crozer Health said in a statement.
The cyberattack began at facilities operated by California-based Prospect Medical Holdings and affected computer systems at 16 hospitals and outpatient facilities and clinics across the U.S., that included Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Southern California, reports Nagamanigrandhi for GlobalData.
Because of the incident, emergency rooms were closed in several states.
Prospect Medical took its systems offline “and launched an investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity specialists,” according to a Prospect press statement.
It is also working with the FBI, according to an emailed statement to The Washington Post.
Those behind the attack are likely overseas and are looking for money and notoriety, according to experts.
