American Community Journals Seeks Experienced Editors to Join Its Fast-Growing Team
American Community Journals (ACJ) — the parent company of VISTA Today, MONTCO Today, DELCO Today, BUCKSCO Today, and PHILADELPHIA Today — is riding a tidal wave of growth this year and is currently looking to fill the following three positions in its rapidly expanding editorial department:
Executive Editor
This position will oversee ACJ’s editorial operations; set and enforce editorial standards to ensure consistency of style across ACJ’s five platforms; and work directly with affiliate partners to grow their brands and market their products and services through storytelling. The Executive Editor will recruit, hire, train, and develop editorial staff members to complete the following day-to-day tasks, per ACJ’s established standards, that are necessary for maintaining a successful platform:
- identifying stories to curate
- curating stories
- locating pictures
- posting stories on WordPress
- optimizing stories for SEO
- scheduling stories for daily newsletters
- developing strong relationships with their affiliate partners
He/she will guide and mentor editorial staff members, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages growth and innovation; monitor their performance — pertaining to total pageviews, organic pageviews, AdThrive revenue, RPM average, newsletter open rate, newsletter click-through rate, new subscribers, tags, etc. — and provide regular feedback; and implement necessary improvements.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field (or the equivalent in work experience); professional writing, editing, and proofreading experience; proven ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; and experience leading a team of professional editors to ever-improving results and helping them achieve their own career aspirations and dreams.
PHILADELPHIA.Today Editor
This position will write original stories about ACJ’s affiliate partners; source, curate, and post additional stories about Philadelphia’s businesses, nonprofits, universities, neighborhoods, and people; and work closely with affiliate partners to elevate their profiles, grow their businesses, and strengthen their connection to the community — all through the written word.
The ideal candidate must be career- and community-minded; have experience in writing and editing news; and have excellent communication and organizational skills. He/she should have experience in conducting interviews and crafting a story based on interviews; experience with generative AI and social media; and an appreciation of the region’s business, educational, and social culture. Knowledge of SEO is preferred.
Operational Editor
This position will ensure that all content published on ACJ’s five platforms adheres to the company’s specific style guidelines and that each post is optimized for maximal performance across ACJ’s multiple distribution channels. He/she will maintain an inventory of 200,000-plus tags across ACJ’s five platforms to ensure they are properly formatted and used; proofread stories to enhance clarity, coherence, and readability; and provide constructive feedback and training to editors and other team members, fostering a collaborative process that encourages growth and improvement.
The ideal candidate will be career- and community-minded; possess professional experience with WordPress, SEO, and Google’s Content Policies; extreme attention to detail and the ability to spot errors and inconsistencies; and the ability to analyze content critically and make decisions that enhance its quality and optimize its performance across desktop and mobile devices. Professional writing experience is a plus.
