The new destination playground at Rose Tree Park in Media is scheduled to open next Friday, July 21, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

”Last week, we completed installation of new rubberized surfacing for the new destination playground that will be opening at Rose Tree Park,” county Public Works Director Danielle Floyd told county council last week.

Ground was broken for the $2 million project at the 120-acre county park back in April. The playground is designed for children of all abilities.

The equipment is being installed by Kompan Inc. and Foresite Concepts Inc. is handling general site construction.

Kompan has built play structures in Denmark, Germany, France, Israel, and the United States.

It uses a sustainable European wood called Robinia, used for ship playgrounds, villages, houses, climb sets, obstacle courses and swing sets.

The Rose Tree Park playground will feature a climbing tower, swings, and bridges, with separate play areas for different age groups.

Public feedback was used in the playground design, which emphasized inclusivity.

Rose Tree Park is also seeing an expansion of the pedestrian mall, new walkways connecting the amphitheater and rear parking lot, and new landscaping and stormwater management.
