There’s a song about Haverford “being the greatest place in the whole wide world.”.  Another song asks “Have You Been to Radnor Township?” describing the community as a “suburban dream”.

If you’re proud of your town and have always wanted a song written about it, Matt Farley is your guy, writes Beatrice Forman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I write songs about things people aren’t writing about,” Farley said. “I get down to the cities that no one would ever write an anthem about, like the 72nd most-populated town in Pennsylvania.”

Farley, who is actually from Massachusetts, and who hasn’t visited most of the towns he sings about, has recorded more than 24,000 songs under more than 80 pseudonyms.

There’s an album released in 2014 dedicated to Pennsylvania. “Pennsylvania Songs: PA Exciting”. It contains 93 songs.

It’s finding new life these days on TikTok, as people discover Farley, the Guy Who Sings About Cities and Towns.

The local tributes run about one to two minutes, favoring people’s Spotify or iTunes searches. The lyrics come from Wikipedia searches.

It’s a pretty good living. Farley made $65,000 from the songs in 2019, according to Inc. Magazine.
