There are lots of options in our area for fans of the birria taco, or for people looking for a new experience and willing to try this foodie trend for the first time, writes Olivia Stefano for Main Line Today.

Birria is a Mexican soup or stew. The meat (traditionally goat, but beef or chicken are often substituted) is cooked until it falls apart and melts in your mouth.

That makes birria’s a perfect taco base. Restaurants will fill tortillas with the meat sauce, and sometimes dip the tortilla into stew or pan fry them until crispy.

It’s the latest big flavor craze.

Here in Delaware County, you’ll find two birria locales in Havertown and Brookhaven.

Senorita’s Mexican Taqueria in Havertown offers genuine Mexican cuisine and it does it with good food, service, and prices.

The birria taco is three corn tortillas with birria meat, covered in birria consomme’ and served with a special sauce, consomme’ and onion and cilantro on the side.

Toro’s BBQ in Brookhaven has a birria pizza.  This gives fans a classic birria experience with all the flavor and juiciness that goes with it.
