Cadets as well as members of the community can learn by getting up close and inside military equipment not usually seen by the general public.

The US Army is coming to the Valley Forge Military Academy & College in Wayne on Saturday, June 24 in an impressive demonstration of military might.

The Army will demonstrate some of the equipment used in defense of the nation. The demonstration includes the firing of blanks from infantry weapons.

“Each year as part of introductory training for incoming College Cadets, we bring to campus some of the machinery, vehicles, and other assets used by the US Army in various deployments around the world,” said Captain Andrew Schrantz, US Army, Operations Officer. “While some VFMC Cadets are Citizen Leaders and will not serve in the military, there is a great deal to learn from what is on display.”

The community is welcome to attend.

Valley Forge Military College, known as the Military College of Pennsylvania is a private co-ed two-year college offering AA and ABA degrees. It offers an Early Commissioning Program enabling graduates to become officers in the US Army or National Guard in two years as opposed to the four years required in traditional ROTC programs.

The campus is also home to the Valley Forge Military Academy, a boarding school for boys in grades 7-12.

The display at VFMAC will be on the Parade Grounds from 9 AM to 12:30 PM. Infantry weapons demonstrations will occur from 9 AM to 9:15 AM.

“While this is part of a training and recruitment exercise, we invite the community because we know this is not something most people have an opportunity to experience,” said Captain Schrantz.

The fall semester is already underway for 43 incoming VFMC college students. Currently plebes until completion of mini- and basic camp, they will earn their Cadet status after completing basic camp and a multi-week plebe period.

Members of the community planning to attend the US Army demonstration should park in the general lot by the football complex on Radnor Street Road and walk onto campus by the Chapel, then over to the Parade Grounds.
