Four major players involved in Delaware County’s infrastructure had an opportunity to talk about modernizing the county’s aging infrastructure at a Delaware County Chamber of Commerce breakfast Friday, writes Linda Stein for the Delaware Valley Journal

The Philadelphia International Airport is taking on a massive cargo expansion project, and two-thirds of the land is in Delaware County, said Airport CEO Atif Saeed.

The expansion is expected to create 6,000 permanent jobs with an expected $1 billion economic impact, not counting the residual impact on area businesses.

Energy Transfer has helped residents receive natural gas, gasoline and petroleum despite the closing of local refineries, said Joe McGinn, Energy Transfer vice president.

Because of its vast pipeline infrastructure, it can bring in products from places like Ohio and Indiana, he said.

PECO President Mike Innocenzo said the company is creating new infrastructure to accommodate more electric vehicles and solar roof panels.

“We have an infrastructure that served this county for 140 years that has new demands on it,” said Innocenzo.

Infrastructure upgrades include more capacity and storm-hardening.

Christopher Franklin, chairman and CEO of Essential (AQUA) pointed to all the street work Aqua’s been doing around the county as evidence of upgrades to its system.
