Chunks of Ice Falling from the Sky on a Sunny Day Baffles Elkins Park Family

By

On a sunny 80-degree day last week, chunks of ice fell from the sky in Elkins Park surprising the family of Jesse Gonzales, writes Bryanna Gallagher for 6ABC.

The mysterious incident occurred in the afternoon. He said they first heard a stomping noise, but it quickly went away.

When he went outside to investigate the sound, he found ice buried in the ground and his gutter on his home had a big dent in it.

“I was like, ‘Okay, that obviously came from the sky at some point,” Gonzales said.

“So, terminal velocity is 120 mph. When I look at the ditch, it makes sense it would come down that fast and the damage it would cause. The bigger piece I think barely missed the roof.”

It is not clear where the ice came from, although it is possible that it simply fell from a passing airplane.

Of course, a more extraterrestrial origin would be a much more fun explanation.
