The impact of the Hollywood writers’ strike hit home this week when workers picketed the “Sinking Spring” set at the Newtown Square Meeting House, writes Franki Rudnesky for Philly Voice.

The set of the Apple TV+ series was picketed Tuesday, May 9.

The crime drama has been filming in Philadelphia and the surrounding region over the past few months.

It is directed by Ridley Scott and was created by Peter Craig of “Top Gun: Maverick”.

The workers were seen picketing near the set, reportedly shutting down production, according to NBC 10. The group had protest signs, including one featuring a drawing of Flyers mascot Gritty.

Apple Studios film crews have been filming the series in Upper Bucks County, Grays Ferry, North Philly and Spruce Hill, as well as along Market Street in Center City.

“Sinking Spring” is based on the novel “Dope Thief” by Philadelphia native Dennis Tafoya.

About 11,500 film and television writers represented by the WGA stopped working a week ago after contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers hit an impasse.

The strike is impacting major productions in Hollywood and New York City.
