Two Shark Tank investors are putting money up for a Haverford-based smoothie vending machine startup, writes Lisa Dukart for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Bleni Blends founders Peter and Stuart Shapiro appeared on Shark Tank Friday, hoping for a $250,000 investment with an offer to the investors of 6 percent of their self-funded company.

The Shapiro brothers walked away with an alternate deal from Shark Tank celebrity investor Lori Greiner and guest investor Daniel Luetzky, the billionaire founder of Kind LLC.

The investors offered $250,000 and a $500,000 line of credit in exchange for 35 percent of the company.

The two brothers took the deal in stride.

“Do we want to own 100 percent of this grape or 10 percent of this huge watermelon,” Peter Shaprio said. “If they can take us to that huge watermelon stage very quickly, putting a [capped] number on it would be crazy…”

Bleni Blends vending machines can create on-demand smoothies and blended coffee beverages in about 60 seconds. With seven smoothie flavors, the 16-ounce drinks retail for $5.50.

There are 55 vending machines in 14 states, plus a location in Canada. The Haverford brothers have also launched a pilot program with Walmart.
