Glen Mills Family Takes Part in Eagles Autism Challenge
NBC 10 is partnering for the sixth year with the Philadelphia Eagles Autism Foundation for its annual Autism Challenge on Saturday, May 20.
The Talley family in Glen Mills participated in last year’s Challenge on behalf of their daughter, Olivia, who was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, reports Lucy Bustamonte for NBC10.
“I’m just a mom who is trying to make a place in the world for her daughter,” said Lauren Talley.
They discovered the Eagles Autism Foundation at an Eagles game and decided to create Team Oliva for last year’s fundraising Challenge.
The Eagles mascot Swoop visited Olivia’s Catholic grade school, and as part of the fundraiser, the kids got to wear Eagles outfits for the day.
“It did exactly what the goal of the day was—bringing awareness, students asking questions,” Lauren said.
Brent Talley said it was eye-opening, even if some of the kids didn’t know what autism was.
“But regardless they knew who Olivia was and they knew she’s special.”
“If you don’t advocate for your child, who else is? That’s what the Eagles Autism Foundation is all about, putting awareness into action,“ Lauren said.
