As Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers left Philadelphia and other big cities during the pandemic, Gen Z has rushed to take their place, writes Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy for USA Today.

According to the analysis of the Census Bureau 2021 American Community Survey by Today’s Homeowner, the five largest cities in the country, including Philadelphia, all saw a net migration increase for Gen Z and a net decrease for all other generations.

Philadelphia ranked eighth in the nation among the top cities to which Gen Z are moving.

According to the report, Philadelphia recorded 12,947 new Gen Z residents and lost about half of that number with 6,698. That puts the net migration at 6,249.

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania recorded a total net migration of -1,368. The Keystone State also lost baby boomers (11,302) and the silent generation (699) but has gained new millennial residents (9,165) and Gen X residents (366).
