The unemployment rate in Pennsylvania has dropped to its lowest-ever recorded level, according to March numbers from the State Department of Labor and Industry, writes Katie Meyer for WITF.

The state has been tracking unemployment rates for the last 43 years, and they have never been as low as the current 3.9 percent. The latest data shows that the number of employed residents in the Keystone State grew by 10,000 over the last month.

The State Department of Labor and Industry said the estimated number of jobs in the state grew by around 4,000 from February to March.

Nationwide, the unemployment rate is at 3.8 percent, which is slightly lower than Pennsylvania’s. Currently, the lowest unemployment rates in the nation can be found in North Dakota and Vermont, which are tied at 2.3 percent.
