Pit bulls get a bad rap so the Providence Animal Center in Media is doing what it can to shine a positive light on these maligned animals and encourage their adoption.
It has designated March as Pit Bull Celebration Month, with a special emphasis on St. Pitty’s Day taking place today, March 11, in Media, reports Lucy Bustamante for NBC 10 Philadelphia.
The Bar (k) Crawl fundraiser runs from 11 AM to 7 PM, beginning at the Plum Street Mall and the State Street Pub.
With each scheduled pit stop, a percentage of your drink, food, and shopping purchases go toward the Fix-a-Bull program at the Center, a subsidized spay-and-neuter and behavior initiative targeted at the most in-need dogs in the community.
There will also be some “loveable pitties and some puppies” showcased during the Crawl.

Pitties are the most misunderstood breed type, said Providence spokeswoman Justina Calgiano.
“We want to celebrate what great dogs they are, how they can fit in with all different types of families,” Calgiano said.
