Frances Sheehan, president of The Foundation for Delaware County, has been named president of the Delaware County Estate Planning Council and elected to the board of directors of the Delaware County Economic Development Oversight Board.

On the Estate Planning Council, Sheehan will lead an organization of estate planning professionals who collaborate and share expertise to improve the quality of estate planning services in the region.

The council’s membership includes attorneys, accountants, financial planners, trust officers, and other professionals involved in the estate planning process.

Sheehan brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served in various leadership roles in the nonprofit sector for more than 30 years.

Sheehan will also work with the Delaware County Economic Development Oversight Board, coordinating economic development efforts in Delaware County.

In her role on the board, she will work closely with businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to foster economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.

The board’s focus is on attracting new businesses to the area, supporting existing businesses, and creating jobs. Sheehan’s extensive experience in nonprofit management and community development will be an asset to the EDOB board.

Frances Sheehan began as founding President of The Foundation for Delaware County in 2017. The Foundation is a philanthropic organization that supports nonprofit organizations in Delaware County by providing funding, technical assistance, and other resources.

Sheehan’s leadership has been instrumental in expanding the Foundation’s impact on the community, including the establishment of the Delaware County COVID-19 Response Fund in 2020.

“I am honored to have been elected as President of the Delaware County Estate Planning Council and to join the board of directors of the Delaware County Economic Development Oversight Board,” said Sheehan. “Both organizations play critical roles in supporting the economic and social well-being of our community, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance their missions.”

The Foundation for Delaware County is the largest philanthropy serving Delaware County and one of 780 community foundations across the U.S.

The Foundation offers support and resources for nonprofits of every size, helps generous people give with more impact, brings together funders, nonprofits, and elected officials to address critical community problems, and responds to major challenges and crises as they arise.

Last year, the Foundation awarded more than $2.3M in Impact Grants and charitable care.

In addition, the Foundation operates the Center for Nonprofit Excellence to strengthen Delaware County’s nonprofit community through training workshops and peer learning opportunities.

The Foundation encourages philanthropy by connecting donors to worthy causes through efficient charitable giving vehicles like donor-advised and scholarship funds.

It operates the prestigious evidence-based programs Healthy Start, the WIC nutrition program, and Nurse-Family Partnership.

In addition to the new Housing Opportunities Program for Equity (HOPE), other programs include El Centro (a Hispanic resource center) and a health resource center for students in the Chester Upland School District.
