Cardinal O’Hara graduate Amaris Baker was unclear about her next move after a year with the Division I Kennesaw State women’s basketball team.

No one had expressed much interest in her after an injury limited her playing time and she was questioning her future in the game.

She sought a program closer to home and, with the help of a coach that had worked with her in middle school and at Cardinal O’Hara, she ended up at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, writes Isabella DiAmore for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Now, the 5-foot-7 sophomore point guard is a leading scorer in the nation in the NJCAA Division II, at 27.5 points per game.

Her goal is to return to Division I basketball. Meanwhile, she’s been focused on getting the No. 5 seeded Harcum College Bears an NJCAA Division II championship win.

Joining the Bears was an opportunity to start over. She focused on becoming faster and stronger.

“My body is different. My mentality is different,” Baker said. “My fitness mindset, I definitely had to build after the transfer portal, like get my mind right.”

As a top scorer, she’s put Harcum College on the map.
