Former Eagles Cheerleader Delivers Care Basket to Swarthmore Girl

By

A Swarthmore mother and daughter were the glad recipients of a “pick me up” basket from Peggy Jansen, a former Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

Liz Dwyer, a teacher at Notre Dame de Lourdes School in Swarthmore, received a gift basket two years ago from Peggy Jansen when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“She dropped stuff off for me and it just made me feel so special,” Dwyer said.

Now her fourth-grade daughter, Andrea, is facing medical issues of her own so Jansen was back Feb. 17 on National Random Acts of Kindness Day with another basket, much to Andrea’s delight.

Peggy Jansen was an Eagles cheerleader from 1979 to 1982.

“And they do a lot more than cheer on the field. They teach you about being charitable, paying it forward in the community.”

Jansen was inspired to create a gift basket charity, Peggy’s Pampering after friends fell on hard times.

Now there’s a community of people with Peggy’s Pampering that recycle or reuse items to create care baskets for people battling illnesses.

Jansen hopes her story inspires others to help because “it’s the village of people that are supporting me to do this.”
