American Airlines has created a one-time-only flight to Brazil to see the Philadelphia Eagles play.

American Airlines is cutting 3,729 flights from its summer schedule at Philadelphia International Airport, writes Holden Wilen and Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The cuts are in place from June through August, a reduction of about 10 percent.

It got rid of 1,505 flights from the airport for June and 1,533 flights for July. For August, the airline took away 671 flights out of PHL.

American is the largest carrier at PHL.

No routes from PHL have been removed from the schedule but the number of times certain routes are flown has been reduced for the summer.

Any customer whose flights were changed will have alternate travel options to get to their destinations, said American spokeswoman Andrea Koos.

Refunds through the airline’s schedule-changing policy will also be available if customers can’t be accommodated.

Demand for flying is strong, but airlines are scheduling conservatively in 2023 as they cope with pilot shortages and delays in delivery of new aircraft.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said the company will continue “sizing our airline for the resources we have available and the operating conditions we expect to encounter.”
